Sello Maake kaNcube is tired of being called Archie Moroka

Actor Sello Maake KaNcube has expressed his frustration at being referred to by the names of some of his iconic on-screen characters.

The seasoned actor played the role of Archie Moroka in Generations about a decade ago. It seems the character’s name will go down in the history of Mzansi’s memorable TV characters.

Fans still call him Archie Moroka.

However, the legendary actor said he wants a fresh start this year and has revealed what his New Year’s resolutions are. Taking to his Twitter account, the 62-year-old actor who recently portrayed the character of professor Kganyago on SABC2’s soapie Skeem Saam has appealed to producers and production houses to hire him, but under one condition. He says he wants his character’s name to be Sello.

“To all the producers and production houses, I’m pleading for a job and I only have one condition – the character’s name must be Sello,” he wrote.

He wrote further: “I need to be popularly known as Sello for a change, not Prof Kganyago, Archie Moroka, Kgosi, Daniel Nyathi, etc. This is my new year’s resolution for 2023. Tweeps weighed in on the tweet. His fans, however, STILL prefer to call him by the names of his famous characters rather than by his real name, judging from the comment. Archie is the name that many insist on calling the actor, as it is their fondest memory of the most iconic characters.

@ChrisExcel102 wrote: “You’ll always be Archie and Daniel Nyathi….. and that’s final

@Zasha4point2 wrote: “I think it has been long overdue that your name has an OI next to it…The Order Of Ikhamanga in Gold, Silver, or Bronze but well done you have been on our screen for decades.”

@THaramanuba: tweeted “I agree. You need to be given a role that is in your name and represents who you are in order to have a lasting impression and memory in our minds… South Africa owes you that much”

@ZTD699 wrote “It is amazing that all that characters that you have played have stuck on you. This speaks to the potency of your talent. You were born for this. A life loved you and you love it well. Blessings to you for 2023. Much love!
