Mpho Popps Set To Host 11th Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards
Mpho ‘Popps’ Modikoane continues to stay busy! Just as you’re getting accustomed to seeing him on one show, he’s already onto his next project.
The versatile South African personality has been revealed as the host for the 11th Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards.
“Much like our country, our comedy scene faced some challenges for a while, so everyone had to pitch in to rebuild the comedy framework,” he remarked.
Themed ‘You Think You Know South Africa’, the 11th edition of the awards event is more than just a comedy show. It’s set to take place at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City on April 13.

“South Africa is much the same; we all have a role to play in driving our country forward, and since SA provides us comedians with so much material daily, we felt it was high time to affectionately give back to it in our own comedic, yet brutally honest way.”
Popps will be joined on stage by esteemed comedians like Celeste Ntuli, Khanyisa Bunu, and Robby Collins, promising a night filled with stand-up gold.
In a unique twist, each winner of the 12 prestigious award categories will perform five minutes of stand-up instead of giving an acceptance speech, ensuring an evening of laughter and pure comedy brilliance.
