CONTROVERSIAL maskandi star, Mthandeni ‘Igcokama Elisha’ Manqele has shocked many.
Manqele physically attacked the event organizer of a festival to elect maskandi king, Lungelo ‘Ngelo V’ Vilane.
Mthandeni interrupted a meeting that was live on Vilane’s Facebook when he arrived with his bodyguards singing a provoking song and attacked the organizer while his bodyguards were protecting him.
The meeting was between the event organizer and fan leaders to announce the top six of maskandi kings voted by fans on Monday, 24 April at Curries Fountain stadium in Durban.
A few months ago, when fans started to vote for their favorite stars by buying tickets written with their favorite’s name, Mthandeni was leading, but two weeks ago things changed when his rival Khuzani Mpungose took the number one spot.
The event Khuphuka Nezakho Sibone Inkunzi will be held at Curries Fountain stadium in Durban on Saturday, 29 October, where the official maskandi king voted by the fans will be crowned and walk away with R100 000 cash.
During his attack, Mthandeni said he is the only maskandi king otherwise there will be a fight if anyone is crowned.
“I’m the only one who is maskandi king. You said my fans must buy tickets, but you are robbing us. I’m the number one,” he said.
DailySun contacted Mthandeni for comment, but his cell phone was off.
The maskandi event was founded in 2016 to stop self-appointed maskandi kings and to let fans vote their official king.
The current voted maskandi king is Khuzani Mpungose.
Event organizer Lungelo Vilane told DailySun that they will take harsh action against Mthandeni after what he did.
“Everyone was invited to attend the preparations for the event, and I was shocked when Mthandeni arrived late and interrupted the meeting and attacked me. At the moment I can’t share what we are going to do.
“After what he did, the decision of allowing him to be part of the ones who are competing for a maskandi king title is still pending,” he said.
