Electricity crisis – 10 million chicks culled in six weeks

Ten million, day-old chicks have been culled in six weeks due to the ongoing blackouts.

The ripple effect of this affects not only farmers but restaurants and fast-food outlets.

At least one fast-food chain has had to temporarily close outlets as a result, while others have had to adapt their menus to deal with the shortage.

It will also soon affect your pocket as poultry prices will rise as a result.

Chicken suppliers are struggling to keep fridges running and abattoir machinery working.
