A 35-year-old woman has been handed a 15-year prison sentence by the Mokopane Regional Court for the brutal murder of her twin sister in Ga Mogotlane village, Limpopo. Tshepho Mogoshadi Mphahlele was convicted in connection with the incident that occurred on January 18, as confirmed by Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba.
During the trial, it was revealed that the accused assaulted her twin sister following a heated argument, ultimately stabbing her multiple times until she succumbed to the injuries at their residence. In a gruesome turn of events, Mphahlele used an axe to dismember her sister’s body before fleeing the scene. She voluntarily surrendered herself to the Moletlane police station on January 20, leading to her arrest.
Sergeant Rodney Mothiba played a crucial role in the investigation, ensuring that the accused was denied bail until the guilty verdict was reached. The court sentenced Mphahlele to 15 years in prison for the murder of her twin sister.
Limpopo’s provincial commissioner of police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the sentencing, emphasizing that no one has the right to take another person’s life, even in the face of provocation.
In a separate incident, a 19-year-old girl faced the Giyani Magistrate’s Court after being arrested for the brutal murder of her 60-year-old father. The arrest took place in Rooerfontein village outside Giyani, Mopani District, following a reported family altercation.
According to Mashaba, the police responded to a report of a family dispute on November 29, discovering the lifeless body of Edward Frank Ralekgokgo with stab wounds. Allegedly, the deceased had engaged in a heated argument with his wife, prompting the daughter to intervene. In an attempt to stop the altercation, the daughter managed to wrestle a knife from her father and, in self-defense, stabbed him. Paramedics later declared the father deceased at the scene.
