A murder investigation is underway following the discovery of a Durban homeowner’s body in his unused swimming pool. The incident unfolded on Saturday at Baracuda Drive in Isipingo.
Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, the spokesperson for KwaZulu-Natal police, reported that members from the South African Police Services (SAPS) Search and Rescue responded to Isipingo following reports of a partially decomposed body. The deceased, a 46-year-old male, was found in his own residential swimming pool, which was not in use at the time. Notably, a black refuse bag was wrapped around his head.
After the body was recovered, it was handed over to Isipingo SAPS, initiating a murder investigation. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being probed to determine the motive and identify potential suspects.
In a separate incident on Lenny Naidoo Drive in Chatsworth, police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in what appears to be a drive-by shooting. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon around 3 pm.
According to Garrith Jamieson from ALS Paramedics, upon responding to reports of a shooting, paramedics found a male driver inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, the man, approximately forty years old, succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda provided additional details, indicating that the victim, believed to be involved in drug dealing, had left a braai to attend to an urgent matter. Moments later, his vehicle was discovered across the pavement at the intersection of R101 and R201, bearing multiple bullet holes. The motive behind the shooting and the identity of the suspects remain unknown at this stage, prompting a thorough investigation by law enforcement.
