Ten million, day-old chicks have been culled in six weeks due to the ongoing blackouts.
The ripple effect of this affects not only farmers but restaurants and fast-food outlets.
At least one fast-food chain has had to temporarily close outlets as a result, while others have had to adapt their menus to deal with the shortage.

Chicken suppliers are struggling to keep fridges running and abattoir machinery working.
