According to reports, the Correctional Services Department has refuted claims that Doctor Nandipha Magudumana, a co-accused of Thabo Bester, is getting preferential treatment while inside.
She is being detained at the Bizzah Makhate jail in Kroonstad’s healthcare section. However, the department claims that this is for her own benefit.
Makgothi Thobakgale, the national commissioner of correctional services, granted reporters a tour of the prison grounds at Nandipha and Thabo Bester earlier this week.
While Bester is being imprisoned in strict isolation at the Kgosi Mampuru jail in Pretoria, Nandipha is supposedly maintained in luxury at the hospital wing.
But following claims that Magudumana was given “special treatment” by not being housed with other offenders, Thobakgale revealed the real reasons why.
In a clip posted on social media, the public are given a glimpse at the Kroonstad prison hospital, where the celebrity doctor is kept in custody.

Thobakgale said: “The purpose is to isolate her, control her movement. To make sure she does not have interaction [with others] or access to cellphones.”
The commissioner claimed that Magudumana is given the same diet as other offenders and no preferential treatment.
While authorities claim Nandipha is being kept under “high security” conditions, social media users are unconvinced.
