Bheki Cele Speaks On AKA’s Murder

Minister of Police Bheki Cele has revealed why he did not go to the murder scene of slain South African rapper, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes also known as AKA, following his high-profile shooting on Friday, 10 February.

AKA was fatally shot with his friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane outside Wish restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. Bheki Cele has been urged to crack the case and find the people responsible for the rapper’s murder. Although he has remained silent on the issue, he did open up in a news conference on Friday, 17 February, as to why he did not attend the murder scene.

Cele told the media that they don’t go to murder scenes for cameras. “We don’t really go for cameras. There was no need to go to this one”.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Bheki Cele revealed that he had been in constant contact with Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and Brigadier Vela Cele. He also revealed that he spoke with the Forbves family and they were satisfied with his job.

“I spoke at length with the family of AKA Tony Forbes. So why would I have to go to the crime scene?

“The family is very satisfied. I have beautiful messages from the family, which I won’t read”.

On Friday, City Press leaked shocking details of what unfolded during and after
Nellie Thembe’s passing in 20221. Nellie fell to her death in 2021 at the Paperclub Hotel in Cape Town.

The information was shared as part of a letter drafted by lawyers for the Tembe family. In the letter, the family states that Anele survived for 20 minutes after she fell off the balcony after she was pushed by AKA allegedly.

As a result of news that the Tembe family will sue the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for not prosecuting the case of their late daughter Anele Tembe, the Forbes were dismayed.

“The Tembes also believe that AKA did not attend to Anele who was alive 20 minutes after she landed on the ground, but instead cleaned the hotel room which had blood, and then went ahead to party with his friends after her passing. These explosive details are contained in a scathing letter which was written on behalf of the family by their lawyers TM Incorporated Attorneys to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Western Cape after it declined to prosecute the rapper following an investigation into Anele’s death in June last year.” wrote City Press

“The family of Anele Tembe, the late fiancée of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, is taking the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to the high court for failing to reveal the contents of a docket that led to its decision not to prosecute the late rapper in connection with her death.” wrote City Press. “The call that Forbes made to the reception was made after Anele Tembe had already landed on the ground. The video footage that captured her fall records a time that is prior to the call that Forbes made to the reception of the hotel. The evidence in the form of the record of the call and the video footage, which are contained in the docket were shockingly ignored. The receptionist is easily contradicted by that” reported the publication.
