The Presidency has clarified statements from President Cyril Ramaphosa that South Africa would be exiting the International Criminal Court. It says the country remains a signatory to the Rome Statute.
On Tuesday, during a state visit by the Finnish President, Ramaphosa stated that the governing ANC had resolved to quit the ICC over ‘unfair treatment’. However, the Presidency says the comments were made in error.Rather, the party has resolved to campaign for equal and consistent application of international law.

Last month, the ICC last month issued a warrant of arrest for Russian President Vladimir Putin. He’s set to visit South Africa in August for the 15th Brics Summit.
