Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt after a councillor from the Mbhashe Local Municipality was shot dead on Friday, 17 February, in Dutywa.
According to Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana, at about 1.30pm the 47-year-old parked her car in front of her business where she went to collect money.
“While counting the money in her car, she was confronted by two unidentified men, one of whom was wearing a balaclava. They allegedly shot her with a firearm and escaped in a white Toyota Avanza that had been parked a few metres from the scene,” Kinana said in a statement.
He added that nothing was stolen from the deceased, and cops had registered a case of murder.
“No arrest has yet been made, and circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown,” he said.
Provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Nomthetheleli Mene has ordered detectives to work tirelessly in finding those involved in this cold-blooded murder.
