Tragic Shooting Claims Life of 16-Year-Old in Durban
A devastating shooting incident unfolded in Newlands East, Durban, claiming the life of a 16-year-old teenager on Thursday night. The tragedy occurred on Hangberger Road, just after 8 pm, when the victim, seated in a car, became the target of gunfire.
Despite immediate efforts to rush the teenager to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries upon arrival. The Newlands East SA Police Service (SAPS) is actively investigating the case as a murder, yet the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
Reports suggest that a group of individuals had gathered outside their residence when a VW Polo, carrying suspects, stopped. Two gunmen allegedly approached the group, firing shots. The victim, positioned in the back seat of a car, suffered critical injuries.
Unfortunately, Newlands East has gained notoriety for shooting incidents, with several reported throughout the year. In a previous occurrence in October, two men were victims of a suspected hit near a primary school in Newlands East. The assailants fired shots at them while traveling along Galjoen Road, resulting in the tragic deaths of both individuals aged 19 and 23.
Another incident in July saw a man fatally shot at a traffic light while returning home from the mosque. The victim, along with two others, came under fire on Musa Dladla Road, marking another unsettling event in the area. The local police are diligently investigating these incidents, emphasizing the urgent need to address the concerning pattern of violence in Newlands East.
