Tragic Bus Accident Claims Six Lives On Long Tom Pass
In a devastating incident, six individuals lost their lives, and 49 others sustained injuries when a bus careened off Long Tom Pass on Friday afternoon, according to the Mpumalanga community safety, security, and liaison department.
The bus, reportedly veering off the road, plunged down the mountainside on Long Tom Pass, situated on the R37 route between Lydenburg and Sabie. Initially, two fatalities were reported, but upon further investigation by emergency personnel, additional casualties were discovered at the crash site.

Emergency responders swiftly transported the injured to nearby hospitals for medical attention. The department emphasized that the circumstances leading to the accident are under investigation by various stakeholders.
MEC Vusi Shongwe expressed deep concern about the rising number of fatalities in the province due to accidents since last week. He appealed to road users to exercise caution, especially during the festive season, emphasizing the importance of vigilance, patience, and careful trip planning to enhance road safety.
The tragic incident marks a somber start to the festive season for the province, prompting renewed calls for heightened awareness and responsible driving practices to prevent further loss of life on the roads.
