Former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede is back in court. She and her 21 co-defendants are facing almost 2,000 accusations. Corruption and attempted corruption are among them, as are fraud and money laundering.
The state accuses them of manipulating Durban Solid Waste contracts worth over R300 million. Mbuso Ngcobo, the first witness, is anticipated to continue his evidence. Gumede’s counsel claims that correct processes were not followed, resulting in the tender enquiry.
