Johannesburg Mayor Thapelo Amad has resigned.
The Al-Jamah councillor was expected to face a motion of no confidence in council on Tuesday.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says the government of local unity has accepted Amad’s resignation and will be submitting names for his replacement in the next few days.
