Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo, a late singer, was born on June 27, and his mother Zamanguni Gumede was born on June 26. Even in their final days on Earth, the two couldn’t be apart.
Mampintsha passed away on December 24 of last year from a stroke, and just over three weeks later, his mother Zamanguni Gumede also passed away from a stroke.
Pinky Gumede, Mampintsha’s sister, remembered the two on their respective birthdays.
Pinky says despite their differences, the mother and son duo “ibi nga mathe no limi (thick as thieves)” she says. “They loved each other, and proof is in how they both passed away a few weeks apart from each other,” she says.
“My mom was heartbroken by Mandla’s death and the way she died proved it.”
On their special day, Pinky shared a warm message on social media and in the privacy of her home, she lit a candle for her late mom and brother and made a short prayer for them.
“I miss them so much. I miss my brother’s jokes and laughter. I miss my mother’s support and love. She was kind and caring and was the person you went to for wisdom.”
Pinky claims that her connection with Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane, the widow of her late brother, has remained positive.
“We have achieved peace, but we are all simply mending in our own areas. She will always remain my in-law’s sister. I’m simply trying to get over the two deaths and heal.
They arrived just when I didn’t anticipate them,” she said.
