Shocking images of a former Mamelodi Sundowns footballer and Percy Tau teammate who has been reduced to destitute and living on the streets have surfaced online, sparking a heated debate.
Images of unkempt ex-Sundowns midfielder Khayelihle Shozi were shared on Twitter, leaving many South Africans shocked and heartbroken about the former professional footballer’s condition.
One fan took to Twitter to share an image of a filthy-looking Shozi, who appeared to be living on the streets.
The Twitter user captioned the post on social media:
“Is this Khayelitlhe Shozi, who used to play for Sundowns MDC?💔”

The image went viral, and it captured the attention of former Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane.
Commenting on the picture, Mosimane wrote:
“Very sad to see this image. His combination with Percy Tau was amazing. We even promoted him to the Senior Team ahead of Percy.💔😭
He came through the same development program, like Pitso, Keletso, Promise etc. Cassius (debut in preseason Zambia July 2019). Special talent!”
Last year, news outlets ran the story of how Khayelihle Shozi had gone missing towards the end of 2021 before finally being found by relatives.
Following this incident, people wondered why Shozi was behaving strangely.
Some suggested it was caused by witchcraft, mental health problems, or an emotional breakdown he probably suffered after being sent off during his last appearance for JDR Stars against Cape Town All Stars on 18 September 2021.
Shozi graduated through the academy at Sundowns and earned the chance to train with the club’s senior team under the direction of Pitso Mosimane and his technical team during the 2015/16 season.
However, things turned nasty for him as he failed to finance his day-to-day expenses to go to training. During that time, he trained by an unknown fitness trainer as he couldn’t afford to attend sessions.
Unfortunately, Shozi fell again on hard times, and this time worse as he ended up living in the streets, quitting his career.
