The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) will resume its annual New Year celebration conference next week, marking its return after a two-year break due to COVID-19.
However, there will be a notable change: vendors will be prohibited from operating during the event.
The 2024/25 Consecration of the New Year conference is set to run from Friday, August 30 to Sunday, September 1, in Moria City near Polokwane, Limpopo.
This decision is likely to disappoint vendors who traditionally earn substantial income from selling various goods such as fruit, meals, and other items during the three-day event.

ZCC spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe explained that the vendor ban is being implemented for safety and security reasons. The church is collaborating with law enforcement to ensure the safety of attendees and pedestrians.
The restriction will affect the R71 main road from Polokwane to Tzaneen, particularly the area around the church’s headquarters. The church has asked for the community’s cooperation during the conference.
While the ZCC asserts that the ban is necessary for safety, vendors are unhappy, as the conference has been a vital source of income for them. The church has not provided alternative options for vendors, leaving their future prospects uncertain.
