Two years ago today the stranger I walked up to and said “I just want to let you know you’re going to be my husband” …proposed! He surprised me with a trip to LA and while on a walk he handed me his phone- it had an app where it told you what stars were in the sky. I found Venus- I turn to show him and he was down on one knee! He said Venus is the Goddess of Love and Beauty.. He said he had never seen a woman more beautiful than me, I was a Goddess myself and he had never known a love so real. He said the fact that Venus just happened to be shinning so bright was the perfect symbolism for it all. I said yes! Then of course said I TOLD YOU’D BE MY HUSBAND! I call this the day of him learning that his wife is always right? Three says later we decided to drive to Vegas and get married! But I’ll save that story for our anniversary ?

When I was little, my biggest fear was getting my toys taken away from me- especially for no reason. Today my biggest fear is feeling like they will be taken for me.. and the reason was beyond anyone’s control-for being a black man. I remember protesting my parents that it was unfair they could take away something I loved. Today we’re protesting for those who have had someone they loved unfairly taken. I remember crying to do anything to get the toy back. Today we cry and mourn those we can never get back. I’m not trying to compare the magnitude of someone’s life being taken away to that of a toy being taken.. but to some it’s the way our lives our viewed- just toys to be played with and taken for no reason. I constantly pray over my husband and son and their lives. I dread that I will have to have a conversation about how people see Braylon as automatic target simply because he was born beautifully black. I hate my husband driving alone because I fear it would be his last. We can’t drive, run, listen to music, be comfortable in our own homes, breathe.. Every life reduced a hashtag, every failed chance to get justice.. it’s tiring. I just continue to pray. I make this post in honor of Ahmuad, may you be running with angel wings on paved streets of gold? #IRunWithMaud

Do you know what today is…It’s our anniversary❤️ After three days of being engaged we drove to Las Vegas to get married! As a little girl I definitely had an idea of what I thought my dream wedding would be.. but marrying you @he_is_gq I realized it’s not the dream wedding I needed, just a dream marriage and that’s what you’ve given me! Thank you for choosing me, for your commitment to our family, to being the Prince Charming to my Princess dreams❤️⁣ ⁣ Here are some flashbacks from that day..⁣ I had to do my own hair, make up and my dress was a last minute pick up from @windsorstore. The video was the first time Tony saw me and the video I sent to my parents. I remember crying because that was the first time it really hit that my family wouldn’t be there. We had to ride in the car together of course so it was a bunch of smiling, nervousness and prayer. We got married at a chapel where it was just the two of us and the preacher. I walked down the aisle to “Spend My Life” and the moment captured was when I finally turned the corner into the room, Tony’s face gets me every time. (Also we weren’t paying for non watermarks so see past that lol) I fell in love with how we will forever have that moment for ourselves. He wiped my tears as I said I do and he was cheesing ear to ear when he said the same! We were officially the Henry’s in less than 20 minutes?. On cloud 9 we left the chapel still in shock we actually did it, but grateful. When we got back to the hotel a kind stranger had asked us if we wanted our pictures taken and that’s the only wedding photos we have today! Eventually we want to have our “I Do, Over” but we know the wedding we had makes us no less married than anyone else. Our marriage has been a complete blessing! Here’s to two years and forever more to go❤️
