In the same sense, a few celebs like Ntsiki Mazwai and now Gareth Cliff, have voiced out their disapproval of the lockdown. President Cyril Ramaphosa regulations did not receive the same reception from people and many celebrities have commended the presidency for their sacrificing the economy for citizens.

In a scathing letter to the president, Gareth warned him of the people’s retaliation should the lockdown regulations not favour them in the long run.This comes after the banning of tobacco sales in the country during level 4 lockdown.

His message to the president exasperated many people and social media came for his neck as the message seemed like it was a threat.The Cliff Central presenter is mostly opposed to the damage the lockdown will have on the economy, hence the people’s rage that will unfold because of the governments’ alleged corruption.

“It’s our health and we’ll take our chances, thank you. We ARE afraid of the havoc your lockdown is wreaking on the economy, on people’s lives and livelihoods…I’m not a smoker – I don’t like cigarettes at all – but when Minister Dlamini-Zuma announced that she was (after a consultation none of us believe happened) going to keep the ban on tobacco products in place, many of us (even the non-smokers) were ready to give her the middle finger – and start risking breaking the rules,” he said.

He continued by saying the president needs to start letting people go and be free, in order for the economy to continue operating.Social media called Gareth on his speaking on behalf of Mzansi as they do not share the same sentiments.

Sizwe Dhlomo also slammed the radio presenter by saying he should be considerate of everyone’s health and not just his own. To sum his rant up, he basically said smokers and the privileged can go to hell.
