Pitso Mosimane has signed a new deal with Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns have announced the end to the drawn-out contract negotiations between the club and coach Pitso Mosimane, with the former Bafana mentor choosing to stay put.

The 55-year-old has guided the Tshwane giants to four league titles plus the 2016 Caf Champions League title, the latter propelling him into becoming one of the more recognisable coaches on the continent.

While clubs have been on standby in preparation for the league’s resumption, the Brazilians have also been busy in the boardroom trying to tie Mosimane down to a contract extension.

The saga ended this week, with club president Patrice Motsepe making the announcement.
“I AM VERY HAPPY THAT THE BOARD OF SUNDOWNS HAVE RENEWED THE CONTRACT OF OUR VERY OWN SIR ALEX FERGUSON. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE HIM FOR EIGHT YEARS BUT WE WILL SEE‚”
Mosimane thanked the club, and said he was looking forward to building a team to conquer Africa.

“I’M PLEASED TO CONFIRM THAT I’VE SIGNED A FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT WITH THE CLUB I DEARLY LOVE. I’D LIKE TO THANK THE PRESIDENT, DR MOTSEPE AND THE BOARD, FOR THE CONFIDENCE THEY HAVE SHOWN IN ME TO LEAD THE TEAM FOR AN ADDITIONAL FOUR YEARS.”

Mosimane arrived at Sundowns midway through the 2012/13 season, when he took over from Dutch legend Johan Neeskens, who had a short but tumultuous spell at the club.

Since then, Mosimane has gone on to become the most decorated coach in South African soccer, bagging a piece of silverware in each of the full seasons he has spent at the helm.
