Kgomosto Christopher has her say on digital learning
It seems as if the future of the 2020 academic year is hanging in the balance. With the lockdown period which has resulted in schools closing, many parents including celebs, are deer in the headlights on whether their children will be safe to return back to their classrooms soon.
Recently TV actress Khanyi Mbau and Uyanda Mbuli encouraged the masses to sign a petition for the 2020 academic year to be scrapped. As some children have been utilizing digital platforms to learn, it is no secret that some still do not have access to these online learning materials.
Weighing in on this Kgomotso Christopher said it is time for radios and newspapers to be used as learning platforms for kids. She said not every child is privileged and felt sorry for Minister Of Education Angie Motsekga as she has a tough decision to make.
Sadly not all families have TV and data & smart phones. Perhaps chance for radio & newspaper platforms. Like old school way…ie. Takalani sesame also broadcasts on radio. William Smith’s classes would also be supplements in newspapers. However may not be ideal for all subjects. https://t.co/C1OisAow0p

SABC launched online portal for classes last week, stand to be corrected. There’s DSTV channel, not sure of number, that’s been running classes daily for all grades (similar style to 90s maths guru William Smith). I watched Grade 7 Maths with my girl last week. They have schedule https://t.co/C1OisAow0p

Another suggestion that’s been made. Would that mean, going forward we would now follow the Northern Hemisphere school calendar permanently? Or after June 2021 we would close schools until Jan 2022, to re-set to our normal academic calendar? Wld solution also apply for varsities? https://t.co/OiZtaZsyIG

Many parents have been calling on the department of education to make a cautious decision on the safety of their children before they return to school.
