Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus has found a new home with Casric Stars, a team competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The 34-year-old forward joins as a free agent, ending a period of uncertainty after his release from Orlando Pirates earlier this season.
Casric Stars confirmed the signing of Erasmus with an enthusiastic message on social media:
“All eyes on the new maestro! Join us as we welcome Romeo #10 to the Casric Stars family. Let’s make history together.”
The announcement has generated excitement among fans, who are eager to see what the experienced forward will bring to the team as they push for promotion.
Erasmus had been without a club since the start of the current season, during which he trained with Cape Town Spurs and Chippa United. However, deals with both teams fell through due to disagreements over terms.
In a recent appearance on the Soccerbeat podcast, Erasmus shed light on the situation:
“I spoke to the [Spurs] chairman [Ari Efstathiou] and had a good chat about training with the team. The coach was happy with what he saw in a short space of time, but things didn’t work out in the end,” Erasmus explained.
He also reflected on his stint with Chippa United: “I trained with them for two weeks, and the coaches — who I’ve had the privilege of playing alongside during their careers — were pleased with my performance. But ultimately, it came down to the duration of terms and financial numbers.”
Casric Stars are currently sixth in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, with 24 points from 16 matches. The team is chasing a strong finish this season, either through automatic promotion or a spot in the promotion playoffs.
The arrival of Erasmus, a player with vast experience at the top level of South African football, is seen as a significant boost to their campaign. Known for his skill, vision, and goal-scoring ability, Erasmus is expected to add quality and leadership to the team as they aim to climb the standings.
Erasmus, nicknamed “Romeo,” now has the opportunity to make a fresh impact with Casric Stars. Fans and teammates alike will be looking to him to deliver the kind of performances that have defined his career.
As Casric Stars push for promotion, the addition of a seasoned campaigner like Erasmus could be the key to achieving their ambitions this season.
