DJ Fresh Breaks Silence on Sudden Death of Ex-Wife Thabiso Sikwane

South African DJ and radio personality Thato Sikwane, known as DJ Fresh, has spoken out following the unexpected death of his ex-wife, Thabiso Sikwane, who passed away on Saturday, August 31st.

Thabiso, a respected radio broadcaster who graced the airwaves of stations such as Voice of Soweto, SAFM, PowerFM, and KayaFM959, was a cherished figure in the South African media landscape. Her sudden passing has left many in shock, with an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, friends, and fans.

In a nearly two-minute video posted on social media, DJ Fresh addressed the circumstances of Thabiso’s death, noting that she passed away around 6:30 in the morning.

“I won’t make a sombre video because that’s not what Thabiso would have wanted. I’m sharing this out of necessity because of the misinformation and fake news that circulate these days,” DJ Fresh said in the video.

He mentioned that while Thabiso’s death is suspected to be due to a cardiac event, the exact cause is still unknown.

“We’ve been told it might have been a cardiac event, but the specific cause hasn’t been determined. We’re awaiting the post-mortem for clarity,” he explained.

He emphasized the shock and disbelief surrounding Thabiso’s sudden passing. “It’s incomprehensible to everyone how this could happen so unexpectedly,” he added.

Reflecting on the way forward, DJ Fresh recounted a meaningful conversation with his eldest son, Thato Sikwane Junior, who encouraged him to honour his mother by keeping his upcoming commitments.

“Just as she did when our fifteen-year-old, Wandy, was born. Wandy arrived a bit early, and I had a booking in Durban. I remember trying to cancel that booking, and in between, Thabiso told me that after the baby is born today, I should honour my bookings,” DJ Fresh recalled. “Now YBF [Thato Sikwane Jr] is saying make sure you honour mom, make sure you represent her but please don’t cancel the bookings. I’m torn about it.”

DJ Fresh ended his message with a heavy sigh, acknowledging the finality of Thabiso’s passing. “But yeah, she’s really gone,” he said.

Thabiso’s death has created a significant void in the South African broadcasting scene. She was celebrated for her warmth, infectious laughter, and her unique ability to connect with listeners.

Beyond her radio career, Thabiso was a dedicated mother and a pillar of support for her family.

DJ Fresh’s video not only sheds light on Thabiso’s passing but also serves as a poignant reminder of life’s fragility and the need to cherish loved ones.

The South African broadcasting community mourns the loss of a true icon and extends heartfelt condolences to Thabiso’s family and friends during this challenging time.
