CHANCES OF FINDING KHAYALETHU MAGADLA ALIVE NOW VERY SLIM

Johannesburg Emergency Services (JES) says the chances of finding Khayalethu Magadla alive after falling into a manhole are slim.

The six-year-old Magadla was playing with his friends last week in Soweto when he slipped into the sewer system.

It’s been over a week now since emergency personnel initiated search and rescue operations for him with no success.

Speaking on POWER Breakfast on Monday, JES spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says, “The chances of us finding him alive is very slim.”

Mulaudzi adds that the area in which Magadla fell is not conducive for someone his age to survive.

He says the chemical used for waste decomposition is dangerous for human beings.

He adds that they have informed the family about the situation.

“We have informed the family about that [and] the family just want us to recover the body and hand over the body to them so that they can find closure.”

City of Johannesburg senior officials led by mayor Mpho Phaalatse last week visited the Magadla family and promised that search efforts would be doubled to help the family find closure.
