Pics- Body of 17-year-old boy found in a dam after trying to escape police
On Saturday 6 June, members of the KZN K9 and search and rescue units, proceeded to the southern side riverbank of the Bivane Dam and found the body of a 17-year-old boy that was suspected to have drowned.
According to KZN Police Brigadier Jay Naicker, the body was found approximately 1.5 kilometres from where the boy allegedly drowned.“All disciplines were mobilised to attend the crime scene. The body was identified by the family and was taken by members of the forensic department for further investigation,” added Naicker.
On Saturday 30 May, at about 15:30, police officers were on routine duties when they spotted a group of boys playing soccer on a field in the Bhadeni area near the Bivane dam in KwaZulu-Natal.
The police officers approached them and arrested eight of them for breaking COVID-19 lockdown regulations. Divers from the police search and rescue unit have been combing the Bivane Dam since last Saturday.
Back in February, two boys aged eight and nine, tragically drowned at a construction site in the North West. According to police, a constriction site outside Lebaleng Township in Makwassie was transformed by heavy rains, causing holes to fill with water.
“They decided to swim. Two boys got into trouble and drowned,” said police. The boys were declared dead at the scene. Also in KwaZulu-Natal on 6 June but around three hours away from the Bivane Dam, a farmhouse restaurant owner was brutally hacked to death.
“There is a case of murder being investigated by Nottingham Road SAPS,” said police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala.“A 67-year-old man was hacked with a bush knife in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was hacked while he was outside of the house,” she said.
Midlands Emergency Medical Services Spokesperson Mark Winterboer said that the scene that greeted the response team in the heart of the Midlands was “gruesome”.“On crews arrival they were met by a gruesome sight of the body of the owner of the establishment who had been hacked by a panga.”
“It appears that the owner was confronted just outside the office where he was then hit with a panga, the patient was then walked through to his office where the suspect checked for money.”
