Another fuel drop predicted for September

Motorists will have an extra spring in their step after projections of a fourth consecutive fuel price drop set for September.

The Automobile Association (AA) said on Friday morning that unaudited data from the Central Energy Fund indicated unleaded 95 would drop by around 94 cents per litre, unleaded 93 by approximately 86 cents per litre, and diesel wholesale prices are set to decrease by roughly 76 cents per litre.

Illuminating paraffin is predicted to drop by almost R1 per litre.

This could result in savings of up to R122 on a 50-litre petrol tank, the AA said.

“The reason for this welcome news is the perfect combination of a strengthening Rand/US Dollar exchange rate since the middle of August, and significantly lower international oil prices which dipped around mid-August and increased the over recovery on the fuel prices in the period under review,” the association’s statement read.

The news, the AA said, provided much-needed relief for consumers and motorists alike, with continued decreases felt across sectors having a positive knock-on effect on their wallets.

“At a time when most South Africans are still struggling to make ends meet, this is welcome news for all.”
