The first day back at school is often filled with feelings of excitement, angst, tension, and in certain cases, fear.

These emotions would have been heightened for Grade 7 and 12 learners who returned back to school for the first time since the lockdown was announced.

With the threat of Covid-19 still looming, many South Africans have had their reservations about school opening.

Twitter user Likho Mango (@YourfaveBhuti) seemed to brush any negative sentiment aside, as he shared photos of his first day back.

The Grade 12 learner was full of smile and included an inspirational message in his tweet:

“Anointed and protected, we were chosen.”

ZA News Online noted that the tweet went viral on Monday, as the post attracted more than 12 000 likes.

Tweeps lined up to wish Likho and his classmates well.

Matshepo_ Meekay (@MatshepoMeekay) offered to provide assistance: “You should send me your details so that I can apply for you at UJ.”

Fikile Buhle Sabela (@fikzorbuhle) said, “Aww , hope your day was beautiful and you guys were all keeping safe distance.
We are praying for you.”

Love note (@Iam_MsLeah) added, “Well wishes to you and your fellow classmates.”

Earlier, ZA News Online reported that with the Grade 7 and 12 students setting foot back in the classroom for the first time in months, anxiety was running high.
