The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) has reported a remarkable overall pass rate of 98.47% for the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, marking the highest pass rate in the past five years.
This outstanding achievement was confirmed on Monday afternoon, underscoring the continued excellence of IEB students.
In addition to the high overall pass rate, a significant 89.37% of the Class of 2024 qualified for entry to degree study, an improvement from the 88.59% seen in 2023. Meanwhile, 7.56% of students qualified for entry to diploma study, maintaining a stable performance in this category.
For those who did not meet the criteria for degree or diploma entry, 1.53% achieved entry to higher certificate study, a slight decrease from the 1.57% in 2023.

A very small proportion, 0.02%, received an endorsed certificate, further illustrating the high standards and rigorous nature of the IEB examinations.
Students who sat for the IEB exams will be able to access their results starting from around 3.30pm on Monday, 13 January. The results will provide students with important insights into their academic performance and future study opportunities.
In a broader context, Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube will announce the national NSC results later on Monday evening, with all matriculants who wrote the NSC exams able to access their individual results from Tuesday, 14 January.
The IEB’s consistent performance in the NSC examinations highlights the dedication and hard work of both students and educators, as well as the continued support for learners in achieving their academic goals
