A woman in her early thirties was arrested over the weekend in Nyendo, a suburb of Masaka City, Uganda, following the circulation of a deeply disturbing video on social media.
The footage has sparked widespread outrage, as it shows the woman allegedly involved in abusive acts toward a one-year-old child.
The video, which has since gone viral, shows the woman reportedly engaging in abusive behavior toward the infant. This incident has drawn immediate condemnation from the public and prompted authorities to take swift action.
Law enforcement officials were alerted, leading to the arrest of the suspect in Masaka.
Maureen Atuhaire, Commissioner of the Child and Family Protection Department of the Uganda Police Force, confirmed the arrest on Sunday, November 2, 2024, via her social media platform.

“The suspect in the viral, disturbing video has already been arrested in Nyendo, Masaka. Investigations are ongoing,” Atuhaire stated, assuring the public that the case is being handled with urgency.
After her arrest, a video surfaced showing the suspect in police custody, where she reportedly expressed confusion about her actions, claiming she had no grievances with the child or the child’s family.
Authorities have intensified their investigation to determine the motives behind the incident and to ensure justice for the young victim.
